Convening Grants from the Terra Foundation for American Art support the planning and implementation of symposia, workshops, and other gatherings that foster interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange relating to the visual arts of the United States and Indigenous North America. The program aims to expand knowledge, nurture relationships, and inspire transformative shifts in perspectives and practices across local and international networks. Convenings may address topics ranging from art history and contemporary practice to institutional change, and are intended to deepen understanding of how American and Indigenous visual arts are practiced and interpreted.
Projects should generate new knowledge, include diverse voices, and catalyze more inclusive and expansive histories of American art. Grants may be used for a variety of expenses, including professional and artist fees, travel, audiovisual support, interpretation services, research dissemination, marketing, and administrative costs. Both in-person and virtual/hybrid convenings are eligible.
