Funding Amounts: Up to $248,648 total funding; cooperative agreement
Summary: Funding opportunity for a CESU-affiliated partner to develop improved methods for monitoring floodplain vegetation status and trends in the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River floodplains.
Key Information: Applicants must be participating partners of the Great Rivers Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a cooperative agreement funding opportunity aimed at a CESU-affiliated partner to investigate and develop more comprehensive and efficient methods for monitoring the status and trends of floodplain vegetation communities. The focus is on floodplain forests and herbaceous communities, which constitute the majority of natural land cover in the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River floodplains (UMRS).
Currently, vegetation ecologists and resource managers use multiple datasets to track plant community status and trends along the UMRS. This project seeks to improve upon these methods to enable long-term, landscape-scale monitoring that better informs ecological understanding and management decisions.
This opportunity is issued under the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program, which fosters partnerships for research, technical assistance, and education related to ecosystem studies.
