The USGS is funding a partner to improve the INHABIT tool, enhancing research products and delivery to support invasive species management and decision-making for land managers across the U.S.
Funder: Geological Survey
Due Dates: July 5, 2026
Funding Amounts: Up to $490,000 total over up to 5 years; typically $125,000 for Year 1, subsequent years contingent on progress and availability of funds.
Summary: Supports a CESU partner to advance the USGS INHABIT tool for invasive species management through research, tool development, and collaboration.
Key Information: Only Rocky Mountain CESU partners are eligible.
This opportunity, offered by the USGS Fort Collins Science Center, funds a partner organization within the Rocky Mountain Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) to conduct research and technical development on the INHABIT webtool. INHABIT supports invasive species management by providing habitat suitability models, watch lists, phenology models, and decision support products for land managers at multiple scales. The selected partner will collaborate closely with USGS and other stakeholders to integrate new features, refine watch lists, address uncertainty in models, and plan for future versions of the tool. The work is expected to result in improved science delivery, enhanced decision-making for invasive species management, and dissemination of research findings.
