Description
This program provides funding to state, local, and tribal governments, as well as law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, probation and parole departments, and sheriffs’ offices, to develop, implement, or expand crisis response training programs. The goal is to enhance public and officer safety and operational effectiveness by equipping law enforcement and correctional officers with tactical skills, strategies, and technology to respond effectively to individuals in crisis—particularly those with behavioral health conditions (including mental health and substance use disorders), intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DDs), physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries. The program emphasizes training in crisis intervention techniques to safely mitigate situations involving individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.
