Description
This program funds initiatives by states, local governments, and tribal entities to enhance the security and privacy of federal judges and their immediate family members. The primary goal is to prevent the public release of covered personal information that could put federal judicial officers or their families at risk, thereby supporting the fair administration of justice. Many federal judges’ personal details are available in state and local records, which are often outside federal control. This grant aims to foster federal-state-local partnerships to address these vulnerabilities and improve overall judicial security.
Funds must be used exclusively for protecting federal judges and their immediate family members, as defined by statute. Applicants with existing judicial protection programs must specify how grant funds will be allocated solely for federal judges and outline cost allocation methodologies to ensure expenses are properly separated. Expenses benefiting other judges are permissible if costs specific to non-federal judges are separately tracked and not charged to this grant.
