Description
This opportunity, offered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), provides funding to state, local, and tribal governments (and their agencies) to enhance the security and privacy of federal judges and their immediate family members. The program aims to prevent the unauthorized release of personal information about at-risk individuals, ensuring federal judges can perform their duties without fear of reprisal. Many federal judges’ personal details are housed in state and local records outside federal control, making them vulnerable to threats. This grant supports the creation or expansion of systems, policies, and practices that restrict access to such information and foster federal-state-local partnerships for judicial protection.
Funds must be used exclusively for the protection of federal judges and their immediate family members as defined by statute. If an applicant already operates a judicial protection program, they must clearly specify how this funding will be used solely for federal judges, including cost allocation methods to ensure separation of expenses. Shared expenses benefiting other judges are allowed if costs specific to non-federal judges are separately tracked and excluded from this grant.
