Description
This program supports the infrastructure for a data repository dedicated to demographic research, primarily datasets generated through the Population Dynamics Branch (PDB) and other components of the NICHD Division of Extramural Research. The repository is a widely used resource for NICHD grantees and aligns with NIH data sharing requirements. It houses more than 3,000 datasets, over 1.5 million variables, and offers archiving, curation, and dissemination services not available through other NICHD-funded repositories.
The grantee will be responsible for:
- Processing 20–40 new or updated datasets annually,
- Disseminating 135 datasets and documentation,
- Overseeing 30 data use agreements,
- Facilitating 700,000+ downloads per year,
- Maintaining a guide to archived data,
- Providing technical assistance to 1,500–2,000 users annually,
- Offering resources and guidance on best practices for archiving, including handling qualitative and sensitive data.
The repository also supports unique data types, such as qualitative studies and unstructured data, and is expected to exceed basic NIH data sharing policy requirements.
