    Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), through the Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP), plans to solicit applications for funding to develop or modernize collaborative research facilities or research-resource facilities. The opportunity supports two major construction programs:

    • Biomedical Research Facilities (BRF): Funds construction or modernization of shared biomedical research spaces, core facilities, biorepositories, and other resource facilities serving a broad scientific community. Facilities should have significant, long-term impact on biomedical research and may include multi-disciplinary spaces, biosafety-level labs, advanced imaging, clean rooms, and more.
    • HIV/AIDS Research Facilities (HRF): Supports facilities dedicated to HIV/AIDS research or resources aligned with NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR) priorities, including vaccine development, advanced animal models, and research on long-term health consequences of HIV infection.

All supported facilities must serve broad research communities—locally, regionally, or nationally—and demonstrate value beyond a single research group or department. NIH encourages applications from institutions across all U.S. regions, including Institutions of Emerging Excellence (IEE) in biomedical research.
