Description
This grant, under the Horizon Europe programme, funds research and innovation activities to develop novel vaccines for viral pathogens with epidemic potential. It targets the advancement of existing prophylactic and therapeutic vaccine candidates for specific viruses, including Junin mammarenavirus, Lassa mammarenavirus, Andes virus, Hantaan virus, Sin Nombre virus, Hendra virus, Enterovirus D68, and Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus. The goal is to improve scientific and clinical understanding, facilitate experimental and clinical investigation, and increase the availability of candidate vaccines for rapid clinical deployment during epidemics or pandemics.
Projects should address in-vitro and in-vivo characterization of vaccine candidates, production under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and initial human clinical safety studies. The grant encourages participation from SMEs, international partners (especially from countries where the targeted viruses are endemic), and engagement with regulatory bodies to ensure a clear pathway to market authorization. Leveraging EU research infrastructure and considering biological and social factors (e.g., sex, age, ethnicity, disability) are also emphasized.
