The Diamonstein-Spielvogel Fellowship Program at the New York Public Library (NYPL) provides support for advanced research projects that require onsite access to the Library’s flagship Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. The fellowship is designed for Ph.D. candidates, post-doctoral scholars, professionals, and independent researchers whose work would significantly benefit from direct engagement with the Library’s extensive original materials, including manuscripts, archives, books, photographs, prints, maps, newspapers, and journals.
The program encourages applications from those working in the humanities and the visual, auditory/performing, and literary arts, as well as projects in other disciplines that utilize humanities-related methodologies. Preference is given to projects that demonstrate a strong need for in-person access to NYPL’s unique collections. The fellowship aims to support historically under-resourced and underrepresented communities and seeks to expand knowledge in the humanities.
Fellows receive access to world-class collections, quiet study spaces, and guidance from expert librarians and curators. They are also expected to participate in public activities to share their research with NYPL’s scholarly and public communities.
