This grant program funds digitization projects that make rare and unique historical and cultural materials widely accessible, with a focus on deepening public understanding of the histories and experiences of people of color and other underrepresented communities in the United States. Projects should align with the program’s five core values: public knowledge, broad representation, authentic partnerships, sustainable infrastructures, and community-centered access. Materials digitized may include those documenting Black, Indigenous, Latine, LGBTQ+, immigrant, disabled, and other marginalized populations. The initiative is designed for nonprofit, academic, independent, and community-based organizations that steward rare collections and are committed to sharing them with the public.
