Description
The Department of Defense (DoD) Breast Cancer Clinical Research Extension Award (BCRP CREA) is designed to support research that extends or expands data collection, follow-up, and analysis of breast cancer clinical studies. The goal is to maximize the impact of patient participation in clinical research, particularly by addressing knowledge gaps caused by early trial termination, limited follow-up, or incomplete data/sample analysis. Projects may involve deeper molecular analysis of clinical samples, new correlative studies, biomarker validation, or continued clinical follow-up of patients from ongoing or completed trials. Clinical trials are not supported under this mechanism.
Research must address at least one of the FY25 BCRP overarching challenges (e.g., prevention, risk identification, distinguishing deadly from non-deadly cancers, metastatic disease, recurrence, improved treatments), unless strong justification for an alternative challenge is provided. The research team must include at least two breast cancer consumer advocates actively involved in a breast cancer advocacy organization.
