This Department of Justice (DOJ) program funds state, local, and tribal government agencies to strengthen criminal justice operations addressing criminal illegal aliens, gang and cartel activity, drug and human trafficking, and related enforcement needs. The program supports hiring and retention of law enforcement and critical criminal justice personnel, acquisition of technology and equipment, and construction or modernization of temporary detention facilities. Funding is intended to enhance capacity for investigation, apprehension, prosecution, detention, and transportation of individuals unlawfully present in the U.S. who have committed crimes, as well as to support participation in Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) and other major DOJ enforcement efforts.
