--- ## Description The Don B. Daily Safety Steel Intern Scholarship, established by the Steel Manufacturers Association and the AIST Foundation, honors Don B. Daily's legacy by supporting North American university students committed to safety and health in the steel industry. The program offers selected students a paid summer internship at a steel-producing company or industry supplier, followed by a one-year scholarship of US$7,500. The initiative aims to foster future leaders in industrial safety and hygiene within the steel sector, encouraging innovative approaches to workplace safety and employee well-being. --- ## Due Dates - October 3, 2025: Completed applications (including all required documents) must be submitted electronically. - October 14, 2025: Final application deadline for the 2026–2027 award cycle. --- ## Funding Amount - Up to two scholarships awarded annually. - Each award includes: - A paid summer internship at a North American steel company or supplier. - A one-year scholarship of US$7,500. --- ## Eligibility - Open to full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in safety or industrial hygiene programs at accredited North American universities. - Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. - Applicants must be citizens of the USA, Canada, or Mexico. - Strong interest in safety within the steel manufacturing industry is required, demonstrated through application materials. - Must be available and willing to relocate for the summer internship. - Recipients must receive a satisfactory internship performance review and maintain the required GPA to remain eligible for the scholarship. - High school seniors and university freshmen are not eligible. --- ## Application Process - Submit a complete electronic application by the stated deadlines. - Required documents: - Current résumé (including academic, work, extracurricular, and leadership experience). - Essay (maximum two pages) outlining professional goals, interest in industrial safety, and potential contributions to the steel industry. - At least one recommendation letter (up to five), preferably from a steel-related company representative and/or a discipline-related professor. Letters must be sent directly to the AIST Foundation. - Current academic transcript (official or unofficial). - Application, essay, and recommendation letter(s) must clearly demonstrate a commitment to safety in the steel industry. - Internship placements are facilitated by AIST, with the recipient’s preferences considered. Self-placed internships require AIST approval. - Applications are evaluated based on steel industry interest (35%), grades (20%), recommendation letters (30%), and extracurricular activities (15%). --- ## Additional Information - Disqualification may occur if a recipient rescinds an accepted internship or accepts a non-steel-related internship. - Acceptance of the scholarship authorizes publication of recipient name and photograph. - All awards are subject to AIST Foundation policies and funding availability. - Scholarship recipients are typically announced in December. --- ## External Links - [Don B.
