    Description

    This opportunity, administered by the Dept. of the Army -- USAMRAA through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), funds clinical research or clinical trials that evaluate interventions, innovations, and solutions addressing critical needs in dementia care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD) and their care partners. Projects must be non-incremental, solution-oriented, and designed to have a significant impact on care quality, caregiver burden, and quality of life. Research may address knowledge gaps, interventions, strategies, technologies, or tools, and should consider both those living with dementia and their care partners. Community collaboration is required for research prospectively enrolling human subjects.

    Distinctive features:

    • Clinical research and clinical trials are allowed, but trials solely evaluating pharmacological interventions are not permitted.
    • Use of animal models is not allowed.
    • Preliminary data are required.
    • Community collaboration is required for human subjects research.
    • Leveraging existing cohorts/datasets is encouraged, including cohorts of individuals 65 years or younger.
    • The Career Initiation or Transition (CIT) Partnership Option allows for collaborative projects with more than one PI.
