Summary: Supports development of resources, datasets, and community platforms to advance rare cancers research and improve outcomes for individuals with rare cancers.
Key Information: Clinical trials are not allowed; projects must include at least two rare cancer Patient Advocates as integral team members.
This opportunity, offered by the Dept. of the Army's USAMRAA under the Rare Cancers Research Program (RCRP), provides funding to support the creation of research resources, clinical or preclinical datasets, and community platforms that address critical gaps in rare cancers research. The goal is to catalyze knowledge building, foster collaboration, and ultimately improve outcomes for individuals affected by rare cancers (defined as cancers affecting six or fewer persons per 100,000 per year in the U.S.).
Projects must address major gaps such as lack of research/clinical resources, insufficient data sharing infrastructure, limited communication/dissemination strategies, or lack of therapeutics/mechanistic research. A strong emphasis is placed on community building, sustainability, and meaningful engagement with Patient Advocates throughout the research process. Clinical trials are not permitted under this award, but clinical and preclinical research is allowed.
