The FY26 Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research Program (DMDRP) Idea Development Award (IDA) is a Department of Defense initiative that funds innovative, early-stage, high-impact research projects with the potential to significantly advance the field of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The program is designed to support new ideas that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements in DMD treatment, management, or understanding, with a strong emphasis on translational potential and benefit across the entire lifespan of individuals affected by DMD—including infants, toddlers, and nonambulatory individuals.
The award targets high-risk/high-reward research that is not yet ready for clinical trials but is supported by strong preliminary data. The DMDRP specifically encourages projects that address gaps in therapy development, novel delivery strategies, muscle regeneration, immune modulation, biomarker discovery, and other innovative approaches relevant to DMD pathophysiology.
Clinical trials or clinical trial aims are not permitted under this mechanism; however, research involving human subjects, human anatomical substances, or preclinical studies is allowed.
