This fellowship opportunity supports research on the physics of dusty plasmas at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC. Dusty plasmas are ionized gases containing charged microparticles, relevant to fundamental physics, semiconductor manufacturing, and space physics. The research utilizes the NRL DUPLEX and DUPLEX Jr. devices, which are among the world’s largest laboratory dusty plasma chambers made from transparent polycarbonate, allowing optical access from nearly all directions.
Current research efforts focus on understanding fundamental properties such as charging mechanisms, macroscopic structuring of charged particle clouds, and the dynamics of dusty plasmas.
