--- ## Description This program funds interdisciplinary research that advances understanding of the complex interactions between natural (biophysical) and human (social, behavioral) systems. Projects must analyze four required components: the dynamics within natural systems; the dynamics within human systems; how natural systems affect human systems; and how human systems affect natural systems. The program also supports Research Coordination Networks that foster collaboration and synthesis across the socio-environmental sciences. Research should be theoretically grounded, of general interest to both natural and social sciences, and designed to yield broader societal impacts.
