The Early Music Program Fund (EMPF) is designed to support educational and field-building activities that enhance research skills for the study, teaching, performance, and understanding of music before c. 1600. Established by the American Musicological Society (AMS), the fund focuses on fostering expertise in areas such as paleography, codicology, organology, archival sciences, musical notation, lexicology, languages, liturgy, and material and scribal cultures relevant to early music. EMPF also encourages the development of professional networks through support for workshops, panels, receptions, and in-person events that complement virtual conferences. The fund’s core goal is to build skills and facilitate networking among scholars and educators working in early music.
