This program supports the education and training of the next generation of geologic mappers through the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) EDMAP component. It provides funding via cooperative agreements to faculty at accredited U.S. colleges and universities for mentored student research projects focused on geologic mapping or related data synthesis. Projects may be field-focused or data synthesis-based, but must result in the production of a geologic map. The initiative aims to expand academic geoscience capacity and strengthen the workforce for federal, state, and private geoscience sectors.
