The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program—Local Formula provides federal funding to eligible units of local government and federally recognized tribal governments to support a wide range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system. Funded projects may address law enforcement, prosecution, courts, corrections, crime victim and witness initiatives, and related public safety efforts. The program is designed to further the Department of Justice’s mission to uphold the rule of law, keep communities safe, and protect civil rights, with a special focus on combating violent crime, providing services to victims, and addressing public safety challenges such as human trafficking and the opioid crisis.
