The ELATE Research Initiative, administered by the English Language Arts Teacher Educators (ELATE) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), provides funding for research projects that advance the mission of ELATE. The initiative seeks proposals addressing key questions in English language arts (ELA) and literacy teacher education, including effective pedagogies, responses to evolving content and issues, and approaches to social justice in educational spaces. Projects may use a range of methodologies—qualitative, mixed-methods, case studies, survey/interview-based, or teacher-research—and should clearly articulate research questions, data collection and analysis methods, and the significance of the work for both ELATE and the broader educational community.
Research supported by this initiative is intended to contribute to ELATE’s efforts to communicate knowledge and beliefs about English education to diverse audiences, including policymakers, administrators, researchers, and practitioners. Awardees are expected to present their research at future NCTE or ELATE conferences.
