Description
The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) established this award in 2020 to recognize an emerging scholar researching policies or practices of multiculturalism and/or multilingualism in Europe and/or other countries. It recognizes an unpublished paper accepted for presentation at the annual CIES conference, examining these subjects from an international, intercultural, or comparative perspective.
The award honors Elizabeth Sherman Swing, CIES’s first historian, whose academic and professional career was dedicated to multiculturalism and multilingualism research. Funded by her bequest, it emphasizes research excellence, social utility, and implications for policy. Assessment considers the paper’s theoretical or conceptual framework, methodology, data collection and analysis, and engagement with multiculturalism or multilingualism.
