The Empire Building Challenge: Hospitals program funds demonstration projects that advance innovative, scalable, and replicable solutions for achieving significant energy and carbon reductions in existing hospital buildings across New York State. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of efficient, low-carbon building systems—such as electrification, electrification readiness, and comprehensive energy efficiency upgrades—while generating proven models for decarbonization in the healthcare sector. Projects must be completed within three years of award and are expected to serve as blueprints for similar efforts statewide.
