Summary: EU grant to boost sustainable plant protein production for animal feed, reducing import dependency and increasing resilience and competitiveness of European agriculture.
Key Information: Requires a multi-actor approach involving stakeholders across the plant protein feed value chain.
This Horizon Europe call supports research and innovation projects that enhance the EU’s capacity to produce plant proteins for animal feed, aiming to reduce reliance on imports (especially soya), and to increase the sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience of the European agricultural sector. The initiative targets all farming approaches (including organic), and expects proposals to address knowledge gaps, promote biodiversity-friendly management, assess impacts across the value chain, and generate capacity-building materials for farmers and advisors. Projects should foster collaboration among farmers, advisors, feed manufacturers, industry (including SMEs), and policy-makers, ensuring effective knowledge exchange and uptake of innovations.
