Description
This funding opportunity supports collaborative, interdisciplinary research projects that address the increasing frequency, severity, and unpredictability of wildfires in the wildland-urban interface (WUI)—the zone where human development meets natural areas. The program is led by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in partnership with the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and Canadian agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR). Projects must involve partners from the UK and at least one other participating country (US and/or Canada), and must focus on enhancing resilience to wildfire risks, understanding fire behavior and impacts, and developing solutions for adaptation, mitigation, and recovery. The program encourages integration across disciplines and sectors, engagement with stakeholders (including Indigenous communities in Canada), and the development of practical interventions at local to national scales.
