The Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship for Public Service Journalism provides substantial support to mid-career journalists—particularly those specializing in fact-based commentary or analysis—seeking to undertake in-depth reporting projects that serve the public interest. The fellowship enables recipients to take time away from daily responsibilities to pursue independent study, research, or travel with the aim of producing impactful published works such as editorials, investigative series, podcasts, or books. Established in 1977 and funded by Nina Pulliam in honor of Eugene C. Pulliam, the fellowship is administered by the Society of Professional Journalists Foundation. The program is designed to broaden journalistic horizons and cultivate high-impact public service journalism.
