Description
The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) is the European Union’s primary instrument for financing rural development programmes (RDPs) throughout its member states. It aims to:
- Improve the competitiveness of agriculture,
- Promote sustainable management of natural resources and climate action,
- Foster balanced territorial development of rural economies and communities.
EAFRD operates through shared management: the European Commission provides funding and oversight, while national and regional authorities design and implement tailored RDPs based on local needs and EU priorities. These programmes support a broad range of activities, including innovation in agriculture, sustainable land management, biodiversity, climate adaptation, rural business development, social inclusion, and more.
