The Terra Foundation Exhibition Grants program funds organizations to plan and implement temporary loan exhibitions that expand and deepen understandings of American art, including the visual arts of the United States and Indigenous North America. The program encourages projects that reflect the full breadth and complexity of American art and its histories, engage diverse perspectives, and catalyze inclusive and expansive practices in the field. Grants offset costs for exhibitions primarily comprising artworks not part of the applicant’s permanent collection, supporting activities such as research, short-term staffing, convenings, interpretation, artist fees (excluding commissions), shipping, insurance, temporary gallery construction, conservation, programs, marketing, and dissemination of research. Multilingual materials and a portion of grant funds for staff and indirect costs are encouraged.
