Description
The West Virginia Department of Human Services’ Bureau for Family Assistance funds Family Support Centers as welcoming, community-based hubs for families with children ages 0–18, pregnant families, and teen parents. Centers bring together formal and informal support to strengthen parenting, family stability, social connections, and child well-being. Services are voluntary and shaped by community needs.
Funded centers use mobility coaching to help families set and meet goals. They also provide evidence-based parenting education, child development programming, parent and teen support groups, health programming, and access to food, baby, hygiene, and clothing resources. The program emphasizes protective factors that can reduce isolation and the risk of child abuse or neglect, alongside parent leadership and collaboration with local agencies.
