    Description

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships program provides competitive grants to individual scholars for projects that demonstrate exceptional humanistic research, rigorous analysis, and clear writing. These fellowships are intended to give recipients the time and resources necessary to write, travel, and conduct research in the humanities. For the 2026 cycle, only projects focused on American history and culture or Western civilization are eligible.

Projects may be at any development stage and can result in books, monographs, peer-reviewed articles, e-books, digital resources, translations with annotations or a critical apparatus, or critical editions. NEH encourages applications from independent scholars and junior scholars.
