--- ## Description The Integrated Earth Systems (IES) program in NSF's Division of Earth Sciences supports collaborative, multidisciplinary research focused on the continental, terrestrial, and deep Earth subsystems. The program aims to bridge disciplinary boundaries to better understand the operation, dynamics, and complexity of Earth systems, from the Earth's core to the critical zone. Projects are expected to go beyond the scope of typical disciplinary research, integrating diverse data and modeling approaches to address system-level hypotheses and advance knowledge of Earth system processes. Research topics may include (but are not limited to): - Continental and terrestrial processes - Surficial Earth systems (physical, chemical, and biotic dimensions) - Interactions among tectonics, climate, landscape change, topography, and geochemical cycles (including core and mantle processes) - Systems-level modeling and integration of large, diverse datasets --- ## Due Dates - Full Proposal Deadline: November 14, 2025 (and annually thereafter) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Typical award size: $1,000,000 to $3,000,000 per project - Duration: 3 to 5 years - Estimated total program funding: $9,000,000 annually - Expected number of awards: 4 to 10 new awards per year No cost sharing or matching required. --- ## Eligibility - Eligible applicants: Unrestricted (open to all categories of organizations, including universities, non-profits, for-profits, and others as defined by NSF) - No restrictions on who may serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI - No limits on the number of proposals per organization or per PI/Co-PI Refer to the [NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide](https://www.nsf.gov/policies/pappg/24-1) for detailed eligibility requirements. --- ## Application Process - Full proposals must be submitted via [NSF FastLane](https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov) or [Grants.gov](https://www.grants.gov). - Letters of intent and preliminary proposals are not required. - Proposals must adhere to the NSF Grant Proposal Guide or Grants.gov Application Guide. - Key required sections: - Project Description (up to 28 pages, including research, management/integration plan, and results of prior support) - Data Management Plan - Postdoctoral Researcher Mentoring Plan (if applicable) - Conflicts of Interest matrix (as a single-copy document) - Supplementary documents may include facility support requests and computational resource requests if relevant.
