The Fulbright Arctic Initiative is a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, with Fulbright Denmark participating in the exchange. Its fourth cohort, spanning 2024–2026, brought together twenty professionals, practitioners, and researchers from the United States, Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark including Greenland, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The program uses a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to address shared Arctic challenges and strengthen mutual understanding between Arctic countries.
The fourth cohort’s thematic groups focused on Mental Health and Well-Being, Arctic Resources, and Security and Governance. Danish scholars’ projects examined foreign malign influence in Indigenous communities, gender and systemic inequalities in Arctic defense and human security, and culturally sensitive approaches to Indigenous mental health and well-being. The work aims to inform policy and support a safer, healthier, more prosperous Arctic.
