This award enables senior U.S. academics and professionals to undertake impactful Arctic-related research in Iceland, with the goal of advancing knowledge in both social and natural sciences and strengthening collaboration between the United States and Iceland. The program is a partnership between the Fulbright Scholar Program and the National Science Foundation, and is among the most prestigious Fulbright appointments. Projects must have significant relevance to Arctic studies or communities of the High North. Scholars are expected to engage with the Icelandic academic and public community through talks, mentoring, and development activities, while focusing primarily on research that leads to peer-reviewed publications or presentations at major international conferences. Interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged, and the program offers robust local support for visiting scholars.
