Description
The Alabama State Department of Education funds the ASAP grant to expand access to evidence-based, high-quality summer and after-school programming. It aims to reduce achievement gaps for students who are not proficient in reading or mathematics while supporting a diverse network of providers and collaboration between local education agencies and community-based organizations.
Programs may offer foundational learning, knowledge-building, homework assistance, tutoring, STEM, financial literacy, arts education, and opportunities to apply learning in new contexts. Applicants must be willing to use the Alabama Afterschool Quality Standards in planning and implementation. Funded programs may extend their schedules, increase participation, remove barriers to attendance, and expand access where quality programming is limited.
