Description
This program provides financial support to Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPOs) for activities that identify, evaluate, and protect historic properties on tribal lands, in accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA, 54 USC 3001 et seq.). Eligible activities include surveys, planning, technical assistance, physical preservation, review of federal undertakings, education, and listing in the National Register of Historic Places or Tribal Registers. Funding enables tribes to assume and carry out historic preservation responsibilities previously managed by State Historic Preservation Offices, under partnership agreements with the National Park Service (NPS). All funded activities must comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and applicable federal policies.
