Description
This funding opportunity aims to enhance public safety and national security by supporting the improvement of criminal history record systems and related background check processes at the state, tribal, and court levels. The program consolidates several initiatives: the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP), NCHIP Supplemental Funding under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (NCHIP SF BSCA), and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP). Funds are available for projects that automate, update, and link criminal record systems, improve access to records for background checks (including firearm purchases), and support the sealing or expungement of records as appropriate under law.
