Description
Countdown to Launch is a competitive, one-time seed grant administered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). It supports schools in strengthening early literacy practices and their capacity to prepare teacher candidates seeking Early Childhood PK–2, Elementary 1–6, or Moderate Disabilities PK–2/PK–8 licensure. The program aims to establish self-sustaining work that advances early literacy equity and excellence through educator preparation partnerships.
Supported activities include professional learning, mentoring, instructional materials, resource libraries, and partnership development aligned with the 2024 Early Literacy Program Approval Criteria. Schools also receive compensation for participating in DESE walkthroughs, meetings, and evaluation data collection. Successful participation can lead to Launchpad School designation, recognizing schools, classrooms, and mentor teachers where future teachers can observe and learn evidence-based early literacy practices.
