Description
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Plant Conservation and Restoration Program (PCRP) funds cooperative agreements to strengthen the national native seed supply chain, essential for restoring resilient public lands and supporting multiple land uses. The program aims to enable rapid ecological recovery following natural disasters, support revegetation for infrastructure and energy projects, and expand market opportunities for small producers and farmers.
PCRP is focused on partnerships that:
- Diversify native seed collections and species in the marketplace.
- Support entry of new farmers and nonprofits into the native seed market.
- Advance nursery production, especially for species unsuitable for direct seeding.
- Promote applied science and innovation to improve restoration outcomes and reduce costs.
- Manage and sustain native plant communities and special status plants.
Priority is given to projects that:
- Collaborate with state agencies, NRCS, wildlife agencies, and others to expand access to the seed market.
- Implement post-fire recovery, restore wildlife migration corridors, and protect priority species.
- Develop technology and infrastructure for seed collection, cleaning, banking, and production.
- Advance applied science to sustain special status plant species and mitigate regulatory impacts on energy development.
- Integrate native seed use across BLM programs (including Wildlife, Oil & Gas, Minerals, Fuels, Range, and Renewable Energy).
Awarded projects are expected to have clear, measurable outcomes and contribute to the resilience of public lands and rural economies.
