Description
The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program (CHP) is a federal grant initiative aimed at increasing community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts by supporting the hiring or rehiring of additional career sworn law enforcement officers. The program is designed to enable local, state, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies to engage in planned community partnerships, implement problem-solving projects, and make organizational changes that advance community policing practices. Anticipated outcomes include greater engagement with communities, enhanced problem analysis and response, and improved agency capacity for proactive policing.
