Description
This funding opportunity from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), U.S. Department of Justice, seeks to improve the safety and effectiveness of law enforcement interactions with individuals experiencing crises. The program funds training and support for law enforcement officers, agency support personnel, and mental health professionals working on crisis intervention teams. The focus is on de-escalation tactics, crisis response, safe encounters with individuals with disabilities, effective participation in crisis intervention teams, and making referrals to community-based services.
Three main funding categories are available:
- Support for Law Enforcement Agencies: For projects implementing training in one or more focus areas.
- Continuation of Regional De-Escalation Training Centers: For regional centers to continue or coordinate de-escalation training across multiple states.
- Curriculum Integration for Law Enforcement Academies and State-Level Training Centers: For integrating de-escalation and crisis response into academy or state training curricula, with encouragement to partner with adult learning and curriculum experts.
