The Gilead COMPASS Initiative® is a major philanthropic effort to address the HIV epidemic in the Southern United States, with a commitment of over $100 million across ten years. The program funds community-based organizations to develop and implement solutions that are responsive to the unique needs of Southern communities, especially those disproportionately affected by HIV, including Black individuals and women. The initiative operates through four Coordinating Centers, each focusing on a key area: organizational capacity building, mental health and trauma-informed care, stigma reduction, and faith-based advocacy.
Grants are available to support a variety of projects, such as developing organizational infrastructure, implementing trauma-informed care, reducing HIV-related stigma, and building inclusive faith-based responses. The initiative emphasizes holistic, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate interventions, and prioritizes organizations that center racial justice and the meaningful involvement of people living with HIV.
