The initiative emphasizes leveraging research opportunities unique to LMICs, generating knowledge applicable to both U.S. and LMIC health challenges, and fostering collaborative relationships. Recipients must spend significant time at the LMIC research site and will be mentored by both senior U.S. and LMIC researchers. The goal is to develop future global leaders in health research, enhance international research networks, and build capacity for competitive independent NIH research proposals.
