Description
This funding opportunity, issued by the U.S. Department of Energy's Golden Field Office (DOE-GFO) through the Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), supports research and development (R&D) projects that advance the production of sustainable propane and renewable chemicals from domestic biomass and waste resources. The program aims to enhance U.S. energy security, support rural economies, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the global competitiveness of the chemical and fuels industries.
There are two main topic areas:
- Topic Area 1: Bio-based Chemicals — Development and adoption of new production methods for value-added chemicals from biomass, focusing on direct replacement chemicals produced at large scale.
- Topic Area 2: Bio-based Propane/LPG — New pathways for producing sustainable liquefied propane and/or petroleum gases (LPG) from diverse feedstocks, including municipal waste, agricultural residues, forest resources, and fats, oils, and grease.
Projects are expected to demonstrate significant technical progress, including product purity, performance testing, and substantial greenhouse gas emission reductions.
