--- ## Description This funding opportunity supports projects aimed at preventing, controlling, and researching the spread of the invasive golden mussel (Limnoperna fortunei) in the Western United States. Golden mussels, first detected in California's Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in October 2024, pose an immediate threat to aquatic ecosystems, water infrastructure, agriculture, and the economy. The program aligns with the priorities outlined in the State of California's Golden Mussel Response Framework and seeks proposals that address prevention, containment, outreach, capacity building, and research related to golden mussel management. --- ## Due Dates - Full application deadline: **October 6, 2025** - The Notice of Funding Opportunity is open for 60 days from posting. - Anticipated project start date: November 17, 2025 - Anticipated project end date: November 16, 2026 --- ## Funding Amount - **Total program funding:** $500,000 - **Award range:** $50,000 (minimum) to $500,000 (maximum) per project - **Expected number of awards:** Approximately 7 - **Project duration:** Up to 18 months - **Cost sharing/matching:** Not required --- ## Eligibility - **Eligible applicants:** Unrestricted. All legal entities are eligible, including: - Institutions of higher education - Nonprofits - For-profit organizations - State, local, and tribal governments - Individuals and other legal entities - **Restrictions:** Land acquisition is not funded. All proposals must address the specified merit review criteria and align with the program’s priorities. - **Foreign entities:** Not funded if based in countries under U.S. sanctions or supporting terrorism.
