The placements are designed for undergraduate students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and other underrepresented groups, providing hands-on experience in AI research, mentorship, skills development, and community-building. The initiative aims to increase diversity in AI research and support pathways into advanced degrees and AI careers. Host universities receive funding to deliver six- to eight-week placements, including stipends, travel, accommodation, and events for students.
