Funder: National Institutes of Health
Due Dates (Anticipated): October 2026 (Full application deadline, projected)
Funding Amounts: Expected 4 awards; specific award size and duration not yet published.
Summary: Supports interdisciplinary team science research to elucidate mechanisms of therapeutic medical devices with the goal of optimizing device-based clinical outcomes.
Key Information: This is a forecasted opportunity; application materials are not yet solicited.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), in partnership with other NIH Institutes and Centers, plans to launch a funding opportunity focused on the mechanisms of action of therapeutic medical devices. The goal is to improve clinical outcomes by advancing the scientific understanding of how medical devices exert therapeutic effects, identifying physiological markers of neurological conditions, and assessing how device-based therapies influence these markers. The program encourages applications from interdisciplinary teams with expertise spanning engineering, biology, clinical care, software development, computational modeling, AI, regulatory science, and clinical trials.
Projects may encompass mechanistic clinical trials, animal studies, computational modeling, or simulation. Both investigational and FDA-approved devices are eligible for study. The intent is to foster collaborations that lead to the development or optimization of therapies that could significantly improve patient care.
