The Hearing Restoration Project supports collaborative research to regenerate inner ear hair cells and develop biological cures for hearing loss and tinnitus.
Funder: Hearing Health Foundation
Due Dates (Anticipated): June 2026 (Full application deadline, projected)
Funding Amounts: Awards typically support one-year projects; amount varies by project and available funds, but recent HRP grants have supported multi-lab, multi-institutional research consortia.
Summary: Supports collaborative research to advance regeneration of inner ear hair cells as a cure for hearing loss and tinnitus.
Key Information: Only members of the HRP consortium are eligible to apply.
The Hearing Restoration Project (HRP) is an international scientific consortium funded by the Hearing Health Foundation, dedicated to discovering a biological cure for hearing loss and tinnitus by enabling regeneration of sensory hair cells in the inner ear. The HRP brings together leading researchers and institutions to foster rapid, open collaboration and data sharing, with the goal of translating discoveries from animal models to human therapies. The consortium is organized into four working groups: Cross-Species Epigenetics, Integrative Analysis, Reprogramming and Gene Delivery, and Screening. Projects are aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of hair cell regeneration and developing the tools and strategies necessary for clinical translation.
