This fellowship supports creative and performing artists, writers, filmmakers, journalists, and similar professionals who aim to produce imaginative works engaging with pre-twentieth-century American history, literature, and culture. The award provides recipients with the opportunity for a four-week period of uninterrupted research at the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) in Worcester, Massachusetts, utilizing its extensive collections. Projects may include—but are not limited to—historical novels, poetry, plays, films, music, visual arts, and other innovative works intended for general public audiences. All applicants are automatically considered for both the Hearst Foundations Fellowship and the Robert and Charlotte Baron Fellowship.
