The Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach, established by the American Chemical Society (ACS) in 1995, honors exceptional volunteer achievements in communicating chemistry to the public. The award celebrates ACS members whose sustained, creative, and impactful volunteer efforts have significantly improved public recognition and appreciation of chemistry’s contributions to society. Eligible activities include lectures, demonstrations, media appearances, social media engagement, and hands-on science events for lay audiences. The award consists of a $2,000 cash prize, a crystal award, and up to $2,000 in travel and accommodation support for attending the ChemLuminary Awards ceremony.
